By a letter dated 13 July 2006 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/2006/517), the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations requested that an urgent meeting of the Security Council be convened to consider " the grave situation resulting from the latest Israeli acts of aggression in Lebanon " .

At that point, the Arab Group had to request the resumption of the tenth emergency special session of the General Assembly to consider the grave situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
