It was the above considerations that led to Samoa's request to the Committee for Development Policy that its graduation from the least developed country category be deferred.

10. The Small Island Developing States Unit in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs provided further information to the Committee for Development Policy.

(d) In view of the increase in the number of graduating least developed countries, the subprogramme will need to increase its substantive input to the Committee for Development Policy, which will be monitoring the socio-economic development of the graduated countries (see General Assembly resolution 62/203);
