On 11 October 2007, I addressed a letter to the President of the Security Council, in which I noted the progress in the preparation for these local elections and requested the Council to authorize the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) to provide full support to the Congolese authorities in the conduct of these elections.
