Importantly, international assistance and cooperation should not be understood as meaning only financial and technical assistance: it also includes the responsibility of developed States to work actively towards an international order that is conducive to the elimination of poverty and the realization of the right to health in developing countries.

It was interesting to note that while the resolution's introduction referred to the elimination of poverty as a long-term political goal, the section relating to core issues referred to reduction and alleviation of poverty and practical steps in that direction, thus coupling the long-term goal with a more practical assessment of what might be achieved in the short to medium term.
