Our thanks go also to the Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs for his important introductory statement and for the efforts he has been making to create momentum at the international level so as to put an end to the arms race and to promote the effectiveness of the disarmament machinery.

16. The Chairman thanked delegations for their constructive participation in the Preparatory Conference and expressed his appreciation to the Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs and the Secretary of the Committee.

17.
