The African Governance Report is a biennial publication that assesses and monitors progress towards good governance in 35 African countries.

The objective of ECA under this subprogramme is to improve and sustain progress towards good governance in Africa and ensure popular participation in the governance and development process to strengthen the foundations of sustainable development.

The challenge therefore is to ensure that Africa's strides towards good governance are sustained through a focus on building a capable State, one that is endowed with transparent, participatory and accountable political and economic systems to consolidate the foundations for sustainable development.
وبالتالي يتمثل التحدي في ضمان استمرار أفريقيا في خطو خطوات نحو تحقيق الحوكمة الرشيدة بالتركيز على بناء دولة قادرة أي دولة تتمتع بنظم سياسية واقتصادية تتسم بالشفافية والمشاركة والمساءلة لتوطيد دعائم التنمية المستدامة.

The subprogramme's technical cooperation includes field projects, such as monitoring and assessing progress towards good governance and building capacity of key governance public institutions and civil society organizations.

15. The Economic Commission for Africa continued to promote good governance practices in all sectors of society, including through expansion of its project on assessing and monitoring progress towards good governance in Africa.

The African Governance Report - launched in the 35 countries surveyed - is a major flagship product of ECA resulting from its field project, " Monitoring and measuring progress towards good governance in Africa " , which was launched in 2000.

485. ECA, through its project on assessing and monitoring the progress towards good governance in Africa, facilitated democratic dialogue, better governance and policy articulations in 32 African countries where the national country reports were produced for the African Governance Report.
