The new United Nations medium-term plan was a significant departure from previous ones. It was a much more focused document, concentrating on result-oriented objectives rather than activities. This was expected to facilitate debate by intergovernmental bodies on the overall direction of the Organization, rather than on large numbers of specific outputs.
