In doing so the States Parties, particularly through the work of the Standing Committee on Victim Assistance and Socio-Economic Reintegration since the Nairobi Summit, have made great advances in formally elaborating understandings regarding what the aim of victim assistance is and how it should be pursued.

1. The Standing Committee on Victim Assistance and Socio-Economic Reintegration, established in accordance with the decisions and recommendations of Meetings of the States Parties, met in Geneva on 4 February 2003 and 13 May 2003.
