1. Preparation of volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5 (1970-1978)

The Committee continued its review of the Draft Guidelines on the Preparation and Submission of Repertory Draft Studies, prepared by the Office of Legal Affairs, in the light of its experience in 1999 and 2000 in connection with the preparation and submission of draft studies for volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5, and with a view to eventual incorporation into the revised Manual.

During the period under review, the Review Committee of the Interdepartmental Committee on Charter Repertory, consisting of the Office of Legal Affairs, the Department of Political Affairs and the respective coordinating and author departments, was convened to review volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5.

15. In view of the above, all studies of volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5 could be completed by the end of 1999, as envisaged by the Secretary-General.

Moreover, indexing of Supplement No. 5 will be undertaken by the Department of Public Information in 2000 once volumes III and IV have been published and the necessary resources have been requested under the Department’s proposed programme budget for 2000-2001.

37. In his 2001 report (ibid., para. 33), the Secretary-General noted that volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5 would be issued in French and Spanish at the end of 2001 and June 2002, respectively.

10. In the 1999 report of the Secretary-General (A/54/363, paras. 15 and 16), it was reported that while volume VI of Supplement No. 6 had been published in August 1999, work on volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5 was to be completed in 1999.

31. In the period under review, the Secretariat continued the implementation of General Assembly resolutions 52/161, 53/106 and 54/106 regarding the preparation of volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5 and volumes I, II, III, IV and V of Supplement No. 6.

While some resources for activities programme for 1998 were made available in mid-August 1998, the ability of the departments concerned to meet the anticipated deadline for the preparation of volumes III and IV of Repertory Supplement No. 5 will depend upon the prospect of the redeployment of further resources early in 1999.

22. All departments concerned, both directly as participants in the preparation of the Repertory and indirectly as the Secretariat units responsible for the identification and allocation of human and financial resources, will continue to coordinate their activities with a view to completing volumes III and IV of Repertory Supplement No. 5.
٢٢ - وستواصل جميع اﻹدارات المعنية سواء مباشرة بوصفها مشاركة في إعداد المرجع أو بصورة غير مباشرة بوصفها وحدات اﻷمانة العامة المسؤولة عن تحديد وتخصيص الموارد البشرية والمالية، تنسيق أنشطتها بغية استكمال المجلدين الثالث والرابع من الملحق رقم ٥ للمرجع.

29. In the period under review, the Secretariat focused on the implementation of General Assembly resolution 52/161, regarding the preparation of volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5 and volume VI of Supplement No. 6, and continued to review the question of the preparation of volumes of the Repertory of Practice of United Nations Organs.
٩٢ - خلال الفترة قيد الاستعراض ركزت اﻷمانة العامة على تنفيذ قرار الجمعية العامة ٥٢/١٦١، المتعلق بإعداد المجلدين الثالث والرابع من الملحق رقم ٥ والمجلد السادس من الملحق رقم ٦، وواصلت استعراض مسألة إعداد مجلدات مرجع ممارسات هيئات اﻷمم المتحدة.

30. While the Secretariat will continue to identify resources for the completion of volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5 and volume VI of Supplement No. 6 within the biennium, an adequate budgetary basis would have to be established for future work on volumes of the Repertory, especially as regards the remaining volumes of Supplement No. 6.
٣٠ - ومع أن اﻷمانة العامة ستواصل تحديد الموارد اللازمة لاستكمال المجلدين الثالث والرابع من الملحق رقم ٥ والمجلد السادس من الملحق رقم ٦ خلال فترة السنتين، إلا أنه ينبغي وضع أساس مناسب في الميزانية لﻷعمال المقبلة المتعلقة بمجلدات المرجع ولا سيما بالنسبة للمجلدات المتبقية من الملحق رقم ٦ للمرجع.

a An additional 14 work-months would be required by the Office of Legal Affairs to review and finalize the draft studies of volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5.

17. With regard to volumes III and IV of Supplement No. 5, it is still the view of the Secretariat units concerned that, provided the necessary resources are also made available in 1999, there is a fair prospect of completing the preparation of draft studies within the current biennium, as envisaged by the Secretary-General.
