Its efforts in the area of national capacity-building were focused on training, the provision of more accurate and timely forecasts and warnings, and public education and awareness with regard to natural disasters.

" )أ( يرحب مع الاهتمام والتقدير بتقرير اﻷمين العام عن تعزيز تنسيق المساعدة الانسانية التي تقدمها منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة فيما يتعلق بالكوارث الطبيعية وغيرها من حالات الطوارئ (A/49/177-E/1994/80)؛

20. Subsequently, at its forty-ninth session, the General Assembly called for improvements and better coordination of early warning capacities within the United Nations system with regard to natural disasters and similar disasters with an adverse effect on the environment.
٢٠ - وبعدئذ دعت الجمعية العامة في دورتها التاسعة واﻷربعون، إلى تحسين قدرات اﻹنذار المبكﱢر وتعزيز التنسيق بينها داخل منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة فيما يتعلق بالكوارث الطبيعية والكوارث المماثلة التي لها أثر ضار بالبيئة.

2. The Council welcomed the report of the Secretary-General (E/1993/90) and reaffirmed that General Assembly resolution 46/182 of 19 December 1991 was the basis for strengthening the coordination of humanitarian assistance of the United Nations system with regard to natural disasters and other emergencies.
٢ - رحب المجلس بتقرير اﻷمين العام (E/1993/90) وأكد مجددا أن قرار الجمعية العامة ٤٦/١٨٢ المؤرخ ١٩ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩١ يشكل اﻷساس لتعزيز تنسيق المساعدة اﻹنسانية التي تقدمها منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة فيما يتعلق بالكوارث الطبيعية وغيرها من حالات الطوارئ.

At its forty-eighth session, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to include in his report to the Economic and Social Council on strengthening the coordination of humanitarian assistance of the United Nations system with regard to natural disasters and other emergencies the recommendations of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (resolution 48/57).
وطلبت الجمعية العامة في دورتها الثامنة واﻷربعين، الى اﻷمين العام أن يدرج في تقريره الى المجلس الاقتصادي والاجتماعي عن تعزيز تنسيق المساعدة اﻹنسانية التي تقدمها منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة فيما يتعلق بالكوارث الطبيعية وحالات الطوارئ اﻷخرى توصيات اللجنة الدائمة المشتركة بين الوكالات )القرار ٤٨/٥٧(.

(e) The implementation of these proposals for the improvement of the early-warning capacities of the United Nations system with regard to natural disasters and similar disasters with an adverse impact on the environment should be duly considered in the preparatory process of the closing event for the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction foreseen for 1999.
)ﻫ( ينبغي النظر على النحو الواجب في تنفيذ هذه الاقتراحات الرامية الى تحسين قدرات منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة على اﻹنذار المبكر فيما يتعلق بالكوارث الطبيعية والكوارث المشابهة التي تخلق آثارا ضارة على البيئة وذلك أثناء العملية التحضيرية للحدث الختامي للعقد الدولي للحد من الكوارث الطبيعية المتوقع في عام ١٩٩٩.
