Members of the CASA mechanism, often in partnership with civil society organizations, undertook joint projects to assist States in building capacity to implement measures to counter the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons.

33. During the reporting period, partners in the Coordinating Action on Small Arms mechanism have continued to use the Standards to good effect in assisting Member States to strengthen national controls over small arms and light weapons.

25. As part of a strategy to raise awareness about the CASA mechanism in the field and improve coordination among United Nations offices at the country level on actions related to small arms and light weapons, the Department for Disarmament Affairs organized the first CASA consultation meeting in the field in Brasilia on 31 May 2005.
25 - ونظمت إدارة شؤون نزع السلاح، كجزء من استراتيجية ترمي إلى إذكاء الوعي بشأن آلية تنسيق الأعمال المتعلقة بالأسلحة الصغيرة في الميدان وتحسين التنسيق فيما بين مكاتب الأمم المتحدة على المستوى القطري فيما يتعلق بالأعمال المتصلة بالأسلحة الصغيرة والأسلحة الخفيفة، الاجتماع التشاوري الأول لهذه الآلية في الميدان، الذي عقد في برازيليا في 31 أيار/مايو 2005.
