26- ومن شأن اقتفاء أثر الأسلحة النارية والذخيرة غير المشروعة في الوقت المناسب أن يمكِّن الدول من معرفة تسلسل جميع عمليات نقل الأسلحة النارية وتحركاتها المشروعة وكشف اللحظة التي يجرى فيها تسريبها إلى القنوات غير المشروعة.

Article 12, paragraph 4 of the Protocol, requires States to cooperate in the tracing of firearms that may have been illicitly manufactured or trafficked, and this cooperation must include providing prompt responses to requests for assistance in tracing such firearms.
