5.3 The authors further argue that the large number of war crimes still requiring investigation does not relieve the authorities of the State party of their responsibility to conduct a prompt, impartial, independent and thorough investigation into cases of gross human rights violations and to regularly inform relatives of the victims on the progress and results of such investigation.
