Furthermore, at the time of writing this report, the two main opposition leaders, Mehdi Karoubi and Mir Hossein Mousavi, remained under house arrest, while hundreds of other political prisoners arrested following the post-election unrest of 2009 continued to be in prison for peacefully exercising their rights to freedom of opinion, expression and association and peaceful assembly.
