The Special Rapporteur expresses the hope that the Special Ambassador of UNPF will be able, not only to contribute to the awareness campaign that has been launched internationally, but also to motivate Governments to show generosity and solidarity by funding all the activities and all the projects that are planned in countries where female genital mutilation occurs.

A noteworthy development is the appointment, in September 1997, of the Special Ambassador of the United Nations Population Fund, who, in the same way as UNICEF and WHO, and often in coordination with them, plays a positive role in combating harmful traditional practices, and particularly female genital mutilation.
١٩- وتجدر اﻹشارة مع الاهتمام إلى أنه تمت، في أيلول/سبتمبر ٧٩٩١، تسمية السفيرة الخاصة لصندوق اﻷمم المتحدة للسكان التي تقوم، على غرار منظمة اﻷمم المتحدة للطفولة ومنظمة الصحة العالمية، بل وبالتنسيق معهما في حالات كثيرة، بدور إيجابي في مكافحة الممارسات التقليدية الضارة، وبخاصة تشويه اﻷعضاء التناسلية لﻷنثى.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhor, who was the World Food Programme (WFP) Special Ambassador for School Feeding, had established a school lunch programme in remote areas to help underfunded schools provide nutritious food through agricultural projects, such as growing vegetables and raising fish, poultry and other types of animals on school grounds.
