In accordance with the established procedure, I should like to inform you that the Government of the Republic of Cuba requests that the following four items brought to the Council's attention by the Republic of Cuba remain on the list of matters of which the Council is seized:

تاسعا - المسائل المعروضة على مجلس الأمن*

The Committee believes that pending a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East, the core of which is the question of Palestine, in accordance with international legitimacy, these items should remain on the list of matters of which the Council is seized, as they continue to engage its responsibility with regard to the maintenance of international peace and security.
وتعتقد اللجنة أنه في انتظار إيجاد تسوية شاملة وعادلة ودائمة للنزاع العربي اﻹسرائيلي في الشرق اﻷوسط، وجوهره قضية فلسطين، وفقا للشرعية الدولية، فإنه ينبغي أن تظل هذه البنود في قائمة المسائل المعروضة على مجلس اﻷمن، حيث ما زالت تتطلب تحمله للمسؤولية فيما يتعلق بصون السلام واﻷمن الدوليين.

I have the honour to draw your attention to my letter dated 27 February 1998, a copy of which has been annexed hereto, concerning the summary statement on matters of which the Council is seized AND ON the stage reached in their consideration.
أتشرف باﻹشارة إلى رسالتي المؤرخة ٢٧ شباط/فبراير ١٩٩٨، التي ترد طي هذه الرسالة نسخة منها، وتتصل بالبيان الموجز عن المسائل المعروضة على مجلس اﻷمن وعن الطور الذي بلغه النظر في تلك المسائل.

“2. The Security Council has decided that, as from 15 September 1996, matters which have not been considered by the Council in the preceding five years will be automatically deleted from the list of matters of which the Council is seized.
" ٢ - وقد قرر مجلس اﻷمن أن تحذف تلقائيا اعتبارا من ٥١ أيلول/سبتمبر ٦٩٩١، من قائمة المسائل المعروضة على مجلس اﻷمن تلك المسائل التي لم ينظر فيها مجلس اﻷمن في السنوات الخمس الماضية.

“2. With reference to paragraphs 2 and 3 of the note by the President of the Security Council, of 30 July 1996, the Council has decided that no item will be deleted from the list of matters of which the Council is seized without the prior consent of the Member States concerned in accordance with the following procedure:
" ٢ - وفيما يتعلق بالفقرتين ٢ و ٣ من مذكرة رئيس مجلس اﻷمن، قرر المجلس ألا يحذف أي بند من قائمة المسائل المعروضة على مجلس اﻷمن دون الموافقة المسبقة للدول اﻷعضاء المعنية وفقا لﻹجراء التالي:

In my capacity as Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, I have the honour to refer to the note by the President of the Security Council on the simplification of the list of matters of which the Council is seized (S/1996/603 and Corr.1).
بصفتي رئيسا للجنة المعنيــة بممارسة الشعـــب الفلسطيني لحقوقه غيــر القابلة للتصرف، أتشرف بأن أشير الى مذكرة رئيس مجلس اﻷمن المتعلقة بتبسيط قائمة المسائل المعروضة على مجلس اﻷمن )S/1996/603 و Corr.1(.
