5. Enhancement of the training materials on mitigation in non-energy sectors 36. During the period 2010 - 2012, the CGE updated its training materials on GHG inventories, vulnerability and adaptation assessment, and mitigation assessment as part of its mandate to provide technical support to non-Annex I Parties.

The participants also recommended that the CGE, in delivering its mandate on providing technical assistance to non-Annex I Parties, take into consideration the emerging needs of the countries, such as enhancing the capacity of non-Annex I Parties to implement the identified adaptation options effectively.

The opening remarks outlined the need to improve the accuracy, consistency and transparency of the information reported in national communications, and acknowledged the role played by the CGE, which is mandated to provide technical assistance to non-Annex I Parties for the regular development of national GHG inventories.

While acknowledging that it has managed to fulfil its mandate of providing technical assistance to non-Annex I Parties for the preparation of their national communications and BURs, the CGE encountered the following challenges that impeded the efficiency and effectiveness of the provision of its mandated activities:
