E. Gender representation 21. Since the forty-fifth session of the General Assembly and in compliance with resolutions 45/239 C and 55/258, section XIV, the Secretary-General continues to report on efforts to increase the number of women in posts subject to geographical distribution in the Secretariat, particularly in senior and policy-making posts.

52. In its resolutions 48/106 of 20 December 1993 and 47/226, the General Assembly urged the Secretary-General to accord greater priority to the recruitment and promotion of women in posts subject to geographical distribution in order to achieve the goals set out in resolutions 45/125, 45/239 C and 46/100, which call for an overall participation rate for women of 35 per cent by 1995 and for a 25 per cent share of posts at the D-1 level and above.
