وتورد المادة ٥٢ من العهد الدولي الخاص بالحقوق المدنية والسياسية هذا الحكم وتسهب فيه، إذ تنص أيضا على حق كل فرد في التصويت والانتخاب وتقلد الوظائف العامة في بلده.

The right under Article 25(a) is a right to take part in the conduct of public affairs directly or through freely chosen representatives and the right under Article 25(c) is a right to have equal access, on general terms of equality, to public service in one's country.
أما الحق المنصوص عليه في المادة 25(أ) فهو حق الاشتراك في إدارة الشؤون العامة، إما مباشرة أو بواسطة ممثلين يُختارون بحرية، وأما الحق المنصوص عليه في المادة 25(ج) فهو الحق في أن تتاح للمواطن، على قدم المساواة عموماً مع سواه، فرصة تقلد الوظائف العامة في بلده.
