In view of the current grave financial crisis facing the United Nations, the Secretary-General wishes to draw the attention of the General Committee to the fact that only two copies of official documents will be distributed to permanent missions and that the practice of simultaneous distribution of documents in all languages will be modified.

In connection with item 63 of the draft agenda (General and complete disarmament), the Secretary-General wishes to draw the attention of the General Committee to the fact that some portions of the annual report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (A/49/297), which is to be considered directly in plenary meeting under item 14, deal with the subject-matter of this item.

The Secretary-General also wishes to draw the attention of the General Committee to the statement he made at the 71st meeting of the Fifth Committee, on 26 August 1993, regarding the current financial situation of the United Nations and the need to introduce certain measures affecting conference services (see A/C.5/47/SR.71).
