In particular, he criticizes the definition for including elements that concern not the definition of reservations but their validity, specifying that they concern only “certain provisions” of the treaty in question, whereas, in his view, the purpose of a reservation is necessarily to restrict the obligations flowing from a treaty (viewed as a whole).
