At its thirty-second session, the SBSTA invited Parties and relevant organizations to submit to the secretariat, by 16 August 2010, views and information on the effectiveness of the Nairobi work programme in fulfilling its objective and expected outcome, as well as in terms of its scope of work and modalities, as set out in the annex to decision 2/CP.11.

32. To further realize the potential of the role of the Nairobi work programme in stimulating and supporting on-the-ground adaptation actions, participants highlighted the need to more closely align the needs of Parties and the actions of organizations and to more systematically document, monitor and evaluate adaptation practices.

Participants also identified the role of the Nairobi work programme in providing relevant scientific and technical advice to relevant processes under the Convention, such as national adaptation plans and climate finance (e.g. recommendations for considering climate finance for transboundary adaptation projects).

11. The first summary report, referred to in paragraph 2 above, outlined the approach to the implementation of activities under the Nairobi work programme during its first phase, that is, undertaking specific activities; engaging stakeholders and catalysing adaptation action; and ensuring that the activities and deliverables target stakeholders at all levels and across all sectors through user-friendly information products.
