The aim of the meeting was to promote the implementation of the Habitat Agenda through the application of the Arab Strategy for Housing and Human Settlements; to identify and consolidate regional mechanisms for the creation of networks among partners; and to propose a model for cooperation aimed at facilitating partnership and capacity-building for sustainable development.

1 - تألف الجزء الرفيع المستوى من الدورة الموضوعية الأولى للجنة المستوطنات البشرية بوصفها اللجنة التحضيرية للدورة الاستثنائية للجمعية العامة لإجراء استعراض وتقييم شاملين لتنفيذ جدول أعمال الموئل من ثلاث جلسات عامة عقدت في يومي 8 و 9 أيار/مايو 2000.

At Istanbul, as set forth in paragraph 37 of the Habitat Agenda, Member States committed themselves to implementing the Habitat Agenda through local, national, subregional and regional plans of action.

The Commission acting as the preparatory committee had before it a draft decision proposed by the Bureau (HS/C/PC.2/L.9), bringing to the attention of the General Assembly at its special session, for further consideration, agreed conclusions 2000/1 of the Economic and Social Council pertaining to the coordinated implementation of the Habitat Agenda by the United Nations system.
