Mr. Dauda (Sierra Leone): At the outset, I join previous speakers in congratulating you, Mr. President, for assuming the presidency of the Security Council for the month of September.

Such problems as poverty, hunger, and illiteracy that have characterized developing countries constitute a serious threat to stability and respect for political rights in these countries. As my President, Sir Dawda Jawara stated at the Conference in Vienna in respect of political rights and the right to development,
والمشاكل من أمثال الفقر والجوع واﻷمية التي تميزت بها البلدان النامية، تشكل خطرا داهما على استقرار واحترام الحقوق السياسية في هذه البلدان، ووفقا لما أعلنه رئيسي، السير داودا جاوارا في مؤتمر فيينا بشأن الحقوق السياسية والحق في التنمية:

80. In reference to paragraph 2 (a) of annex I to the rules of procedure, Mr. Dauda also informed the Commission that Ghana had held consultations with Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria and Togo concerning adjacent and opposite maritime boundaries.
80 - وبالإشارة إلى الفقرة 2 (أ) من المرفق الأول للنظام الداخلي، أبلغ السيد داودا اللجنة أيضا أن غانا قد عقدت مشاورات مع بنن، وكوت ديفوار، ونيجيريا وتوغو بشأن الحدود البحرية المتاخمة والمقابلة.

The Gambia, the complainant, a former Head of State of The Gambia, alleged that after the military coup that overthrew his Government, political parties were banned and that an independent Member of Parliament and his supporters were arrested for planning a peaceful demonstration.
