42. The information received by the Special Representative has enabled her to identify moments when those working in the defence of human rights appear to become particularly vulnerable.

During the present reporting period, the Special Rapporteur transmitted urgent appeals on behalf of persons carrying out peaceful activities in defence of human rights and fundamental freedoms, requesting the Governments concerned to take the necessary measures to protect these persons' right to life: Brazil (3), Colombia (7), Honduras (1), India (1), Indonesia (2), Mexico (4), Nicaragua (1), Myanmar (1) and Peru (3).

In 2006, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on human rights defenders noted that the Constitution of Tuvalu contained advanced sections allowing for the application of relevant international human rights law, but that specific provisions directed at safeguarding activities carried out for the defence of human rights were, generally, not prescribed.
