Article 29 of the Civil Code stated that human personality began at birth; thus, from the moment they were born, all children had the same rights to well-being and protection as adults. The Civil Code also defined the rights of human embryos.

1. Civil competence The provisions of Civil Law No. 131 of 1948 conform to these principles by stating that the human personality begins with birth and ends with death (art. 29), and the birth must be officially registered (art. 30). By law, every individual must have a name and surname (art. 38).
■ جاءت أحكام القانون المدني رقم 131 لسنة 1948 متفقة مع تلك المبادئ ومقررة أن شخصية الإنسان تبدأ بتمام ولادته حيا وتنتهي بموته (المادة 29) كما قرر حتمية إثبات الميلاد بالسجلات المعدة لذلك (المادة 30) وأوجب كذلك القانون أن يكون لكل شخص اسم ولقب (المادة 38).

As for the rights mentioned in paragraph 2 of this article of the Convention, which include that in connection with according to women a legal capacity identical to that of men, the provisions of the Civil Code, some of which have already been mentioned, are in keeping with such principles and state that the personality of the human being begins at birth and ends on death (article 9).
أما بالنسبة للحقوق الواردة في الفقرة الثانية من هذه المادة والتي من بينها منح المرأة أهلية قانونية مماثلة لأهلية الرجل، فإن أحكام القانون المدني، الذي سبقت الإشارة إلى بعض أحكامه، جاءت متفقة مع تلك المبادئ ومقررة أن شخصية الإنسان تبدأ بتمام ولادته حيا وتنتهي بوفاته (المادة التاسعة).
