Furthermore, the Department has taken action and has joined hands with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) to develop a three-year strategy with the intention to improve gender balance at all levels of mediation; in the ranks of United Nations mediators themselves and in members of mediation teams.

A special $1 million gender facility allocation was provided to improve UNDP programming in 30 countries for gender equality and the advancement of women and to promote cooperation with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) at the country level.
