2. During the reporting period, the political landscape in the Central African subregion was dominated by the further deterioration of the overall situation in the Central African Republic, as well as mounting security concerns emanating from the Gulf of Guinea and the Sahel region.

9. The issue of poaching and the illicit trade in ivory in the Central African subregion, which was first brought to the attention of the Security Council in my report of 13 December 2012 (S/2012/923) has now reached alarming levels.
9 - بلغت مسألة الصيد غير المشروع والاتجار غير المشروع في العاج في المنطقة دون الإقليمية لوسط أفريقيا مستويات مثيرة للقلق، وهي مسألة كنت وجهتُ انتباه مجلس الأمن إليها لأول مرة في تقريري الصادر في 13 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2012 (S/2012/923).

The representative of UNOCA stated that the Office had recently taken significant action to deploy preventive diplomacy and make the international community better aware of peace and security issues in the Central African subregion. It had held regular meetings with diplomats, representatives of international organizations and key partners such as the media and academic institutions.

The report assesses the major political trends in the Central African subregion since my last report (S/2012/923), dated 13 December 2012, provides an update on progress in implementing the mandate of UNOCA, and reports on ongoing efforts to counter the threat and impact of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA).
