The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women briefed the Board on steps being taken to secure an individual from within the United Nations system at a suitably senior level to take on the responsibilities of Officer-in-Charge.

Finances 11. During 1998, the President of the INSTRAW Board of Trustees and the INSTRAW Director approached the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, who is also the Special Representative of the Secretary-General to INSTRAW, the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and the Advancement of Women and other senior officials of the Secretariat, and expressed the need to address the financial situation of the Institute.
