We would like to draw attention to the September 2006 publication of " Fundamental Safety Principles " , a set of 10 new principles which consolidate and replace the previous publication on the subject and constitute the basis of requirements for the safety of nuclear installations as well as action to be taken to protect people and the environment from exposure to ionizing radiation.

10. While still conducting comprehensive oversight and evaluations consistent with its overall mandate, the Committee identified the following thematic priorities for the period: (a) medical exposures of patients, radiation levels and effects of energy production; (b) exposure to natural sources of radiation; and (c) improved understanding of the effects from exposure to ionizing radiation at low dose rates.
10 - ولا تزال اللجنة تضطلع بأعمال الرقابة والتقييم الشاملة بما يتمشى وولايتها العامة، ولكنها حددت لهذه الفترة الأولويات المواضيعية التالية: (أ) مستويات تعرّض المرضى للإشعاع للأغراض الطبية، ومستويات الإشعاع الناتجة عن إنتاج الطاقة وما لذلك من آثار؛ (ب) التعرض لمصادر الإشعاع الطبيعية؛ (ج) تحسين فهم آثار التعرض للإشعاع المؤيّن بجرعات ضئيلة.

With regard to the report with scientific annexes that it had approved in 2006, the Committee expressed its dissatisfaction that volume II, containing the scientific annexes entitled " Non-targeted and delayed effects of exposure to ionizing radiation " , " Effects of ionizing radiation on the immune system " and " Sources-to-effects assessment for radon in homes and workplaces " , had not been published until July 2009.
