It will commission studies on issues relating to the incorporation of the gender perspective in the development of countries of the region, such as holistic health policies for women; the development of institutions for the advancement of women at the municipal and decentralized level; the employment of women in high-productivity sectors of the economy; and advances in the equitable distribution of family responsibilities between men and women.

In order for the Platform for Action to be implemented, it will be necessary for Governments to establish or improve the effectiveness of national machineries for the advancement of women at the highest political level, appropriate intra- and inter-ministerial procedures and staffing, and other institutions with the mandate and capacity to broaden women's participation and integrate gender analysis into policies and programmes.
