The Economic and Social Council, at its 1998 session on the integrated and coordinated follow-up to major United Nations conferences and summits, stressed that poverty eradication and improving living conditions of people everywhere should be the overriding objective of the Council’s efforts to ensure an integrated and coordinated follow-up to conferences, in particular the World Summit for Social Development.
