1. Mrs. Mahouve (Cameroon) said that there was a need, in the context of the advancement of women, to take a particular interest in rural women, since very often they were marginalized or even excluded.

33. Mr. Mahouve (Cameroon), referring to the issue of the independence of the judiciary, observed that the application of that principle raised questions in every country where judges were appointed by the executive.

36. Mr. Mahouve (Cameroon) emphasized that the problem with freedoms in general was one of reconciliation; thus, in a democratic society, freedom of expression had to be reconciled with other freedoms.

Ms. Mahouvé Same (Cameroon), speaking on behalf of the Economic Community of Central African States, said that Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Sierra Leone, the United Republic of Tanzania and the United States of America had also joined in sponsoring the draft resolution, which she hoped would be adopted by consensus.

Mr. Mahouve (Cameroon), Deputy-Director for Criminal Law in the Ministry of Justice, gave details of the case of the SecretaryGeneral of the Office of the President of the Republic, who had been accused of misappropriation of public moneys and prosecuted, together with his subordinate, under article 184 of the Penal Code.
6- السيد ماهوفي ( الكاميرون) قدم بصفته نائبا لمدير التشريع الجنائي في وزارة العدل توضيحات بشأن قضية الأمين العام لرئاسة الجمهورية الذي اتهم باختلاس أموال عامة والذي قدم مع شريكه للمحاكمة بموجب المادة 184 من قانون العقوبات.

19. Ms. Mahouve (Cameroon), speaking on behalf of the States members of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), announced that Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, France, Germany, Italy, Morocco and the United States of America had become sponsors of the draft resolution and thanked those countries for their support.
