20. The 10-year review and appraisal of the implementation of the Platform for Action and the outcome of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly revealed that Member States had taken positive steps to develop policies, adopt and review legislation and initiate programmes on gender equality and empowerment of women over the past decade.
20 - ويكشف استعراض وتقييم تنفيذ منهاج العمل ونتائج الدورة الاستثنائية الثالثة والعشرين للجمعية العامة بعد انقضاء عشر سنوات، أن الدول الأعضاء اتخذت، خلال السنوات العشر الماضية، خطوات إيجابية لوضع سياسات، واعتماد واستعراض تشريعات وبدء برامج بشأن المساواة بين الجنسين وتمكين المرأة.

In that regard, it welcomed the contributions of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women to promoting the implementation of the Platform for Action and the outcome of the twenty-third special session, and invited States parties to the Convention to include measures taken to enhance implementation at the national level in their reports to the Committee under article 18 of the Convention.

In resolution 55/71, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to report to the Commission with recommendations for the effective implementation of the Platform for Action and the outcome of the twenty-third special session of the Assembly, inter alia, through enhancing the effectiveness of its work and its catalytic role in mainstreaming a gender perspective in United Nations activities.
