It was added that, under the current education framework, a number of literacy programmes had been carried out and, with the support of the Government of Cuba, it was hoped that two additional programmes to combat illiteracy would also be implemented.

It is recommended that the Special Rapporteur should continue his investigations into the allegations concerning the existence of mercenary networks operating from various territories in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, in direct violation of national and international law, for the purpose of undermining the stability of constitutional Governments and, in particular, that of the Government of Cuba.

1. At the invitation of the Government of Cuba in a letter dated 17 August 1998, the Special Rapporteur on violence against women visited Cuba from 7 to 12 June 1999 to study the situation of violence against women and its causes and consequences.
1- بناء على دعوة من حكومة كوبا وردت في رسالتها المؤرخة 17 آب/أغسطس 1998، قامت المقررة الخاصة المعنية بالعنف ضد المرأة، بزيارة كوبا في الفترة من 7 إلى 12 حزيران/يونيه 1999، لدراسة حالة العنف ضد المرأة، أسبابه وعواقبه.

On the occasion of Cuba's signing of the Treaty of Tlatelolco, our Minister of Foreign Affairs said that this act, in the face of great danger and at the cost of great sacrifice, marked a reaffirmation by the Government of Cuba of the genuinely peaceful nature of our nuclear programme.
