As conversion offers to many economies the prospect of significant long-term benefits, States should be encouraged to engage in international dialogue on the application of science and technology for conversion with a view to facilitating the formulation and successful implementation of national policies.
ولما كان التحويل يتيح للعديد من الاقتصادات إمكانية جني فوائد هامة طويلة اﻷجل، ينبغي تشجيع الدول على الدخول في حوار دولي بشأن استخدام العلم والتكنولوجيا في أغراض التحويل بهدف تيسير صياغة السياسات الوطنية ونجاح تنفيذها.

The purpose of the note is to initiate and facilitate discussions on preparatory activities for formulating a common vision for the future contribution of science and technology for development.

In resolution 1995/4, ECOSOC invited the Commission on Science and technology for Development to give consideration to ways and means of taking advantage of the twentieth anniversary of the Vienna Conference on Science and technology for Development for the formulation of a common vision regarding the future contribution of science and technology for development.

49. Capacity-building was a central issue in the formulation of a common vision regarding the future contribution of science and technology for development (A/54/270, sect. V). To that end, explicit and coherent national science, technology and innovation policies and appropriate international frameworks were needed.
