The programmes on water-quality management in international river basins (Nile, Zambezi, Mekong, Rio de la Plata) have led to close technical cooperation between regional authorities, namely, river basin authorities of committees, the bilateral and multilateral donors involved, and various organs of the United Nations system, notably UNEP and WHO.
