The view was expressed that the Office of Conference and Support Services had an obligation to service scheduled meeting of United Nations bodies as a priority and that all meetings of regional and other major groupings of States should continue to be serviced on an " as available " basis.

The Committee had recognized the importance of such meetings and had urged intergovernmental bodies to spare no effort at the planning stage to make provision for such meetings in their programmes of work and to notify conference services well in advance of any cancellations, so that unutilized conference-servicing resources might, to the extent possible, be reassigned to meetings of regional and other major groupings of States.
