14. Living conditions in the psychiatric hospital of Poina Mare, which has 440 patients, were the subject of a communication sent in 2004 by the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture, the Special Rapporteur on the right to health and the Special Rapporteur on the right to food.

OHCHR, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Special Rapporteur on the right to food contributed to the national protection of the right to adequate food through laws and strategies.

9. The delegation reported that Benin had hosted visits from the Sub-Committee on Prevention of Torture in May 2008, and from the Special Rapporteur on the right to food in 2009, and noted that the measures adopted as follow-up to those visits were part of the progress made by Benin in complying with its international commitments.

Similar concerns were raised jointly by the Independent Expert on minority issues, the Special Rapporteurs on the right to food and on adequate housing and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the human rights of internally displaced persons.
