Although pre—colonial Rwanda was inhabited by the same peoples as are found there today, namely, the Hutus (of Bantu origin), the Tutsi (of Hamitic descent) and the Twas (pymoid type), these three peoples, organized in more or less autonomous kingdoms, did not constitute opposing dominant and dominated “ethnic groups”.
