On 23 June 1994, it was reported that, according to Ahmad Sayyad, the director of the Mandela Institute, an advocacy group for Palestinian prisoners, 5,330 Palestinian prisoners remained in jail together with 1,500 others who could be freed if they signed a pledge to remain in Gaza or Jericho. At 0645 hours on 10 April 1999, Major General Sayyad Shirazi was gunned down in front of his residence in Tehran as he was taking his son to school.

Major General Sayyad Shirazi was a national hero who had performed with bravery in defence of Iranian territory and with honour in Iraq’s war of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, in which the Iraq-based MKO served as mercenaries for the army of aggression and occupation.
وكان اللواء سيد شيرازي بطلا قوميا قام بالدفاع بشجاعة عن اﻷراضي اﻹيرانية وحارب بشرف في الحرب العدوانية العراقية على جمهورية إيران اﻹسلامية، والتي عمل خلالها أعضاء منظمة مجاهدي خلق التي تتخذ من العراق مقرا لها كمرتزقة في جيش العدوان والاحتلال.
