Following the Conference, the General Assembly decided, in its resolution 49/128 of 19 December 1994, that the revitalized Commission on Population and Development should be charged with monitoring, reviewing and assessing the implementation of the Programme of Action adopted at Cairo.

٣ - وكما أوضحت الجمعية العامة في قرارها ٤٩/١٢٨، ستجري عملية " إعادة تنشيط " للجنة السكان، لكي تضطلع بالمهام الجديدة وهي رصد واستعراض وتقييم تنفيذ برنامج العمل؛ كما سيتغير اسم اللجنة ليصبح لجنة السكان والتنمية.

In line with paragraph 23 (c) of General Assembly resolution 49/128, the Commission proposed that it assist the Council by monitoring, reviewing and assessing the implementation of the Programme of Action at the national, regional and international levels, identify reasons for successes and failure, and advise the Council thereon.
