A number of excellent examples from the United States and Norway had been presented at the recent launch of the thematic report presenting the outcomes of the expert consultation on the prevention of and responses to violence against children within the justice system.

96. The Study and the thematic report on prevention of and responses to violence against children within the juvenile justice system (A/HRC/21/25) highlighted the harmful effects of detention on children, and the serious risk of violence to children deprived of liberty.

Subsequently, in September 2012, the Human Rights Council received a report on the prevention of and responses to violence against children within the juvenile justice system jointly prepared by OHCHR, UNODC and the Special Representative (A/HRC/21/25).

Also in its resolution 18/12, the Council invited OHCHR to collaborate with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children in the organization of an expert consultation on prevention of and responses to violence against children within the juvenile justice system, and to submit a report thereon.
