The Regional Office for Africa and the Arab States launched the first report, State of African Cities 2008: A Framework for Addressing Urban Challenges in Africa, at the fourth session of the World Urban Forum, in Nanjing, China, in 2008 and it is now preparing a 2010 version to be launched at the African Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development, scheduled to be held in October 2010.

(c) At the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Africa and the Arab States, activities undertaken were reported without reference to the time frame indicated in the respective workplan, and although delays and reasons for them were mentioned, slippages were not quantified and therefore were not captured in the report; and 15 projects had been completed by 31 December 2003 or earlier, but the accounts remained open as at 31 December 2004.

Activities in the Arab States currently fall under the responsibility of the Regional Office for Africa and the Arab States. The Centre intends to approach Arab Governments (using the process applied in 1995-1996 for Latin America and Asia) and solicit offers to host a possible office for the Arab States, which should operate at no cost to the Centre's core resources (i.e. Foundation and regular budget).

UN-HABITATUN-Habitat has continued its cooperation with the United Nations VolunteersUNV programme through the implementation of joint activities, particularly in the area of disaster management and in support given to the UN-HABITATUN-Habitat regional offices for Africa and the Arab States and for Asia and the Pacific.
