The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland submitted a special report in response to a decision taken by the Committee following its consideration of the part of the fourth periodic report of the United Kingdom relating to Hong Kong (see paras. 47-72).

The CHAIRMAN said that the fourth periodic report of the United Kingdom in respect of Hong Kong (CCPR/C/95/Add.5) had been considered at the fifty—fifth session and that the Committee had requested the Government to submit to it a brief special report focusing on the application of the Covenant after 1 July 1997.
