The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire was established by the Security Council in its resolution 1528 (2004) for an initial period of 12 months from 4 April 2004, at which date authority was transferred from the United Nations Mission in Côte d'Ivoire and the forces of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to UNOCI.
