4. The Model Strategies and Practical Measures should be implemented by Member States and other entities, without prejudice to the principle of gender equality before the law, in order to facilitate the efforts by Governments to deal with, within the criminal justice system, the various manifestations of violence against women.

IV. manifestations of violence against women

69. During her visit to Jordan in November 2011 (see A/HRC/20/16/Add.1), she had analysed different manifestations of violence against women in the country, such as domestic violence, sexual harassment and sexual violence, gender-related killings and violence against migrant domestic workers and refugee women.

Comparisons are made all the more difficult by the fact that the manifestations of violence against women vary according to the social, economic and historical context.34 However, it is clear that violence against women remains a devastating reality in all parts of the world, and the implementation of international and regional standards to eradicate such violence is therefore an urgent priority.

16. The General Assembly, in its resolution 52/86 of 12 December 1997, adopted the Model Strategies and Practical Measures on the Elimination of Violence against Women in the Field of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which have been put forward as a model of guidelines to be used by Governments in their efforts, within the criminal justice system, to address the various manifestations of violence against women.
١٦ - واعتمدت الجمعية العامة، في قرارها ٥٢/٨٦ المؤرخ ١٢ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٧، استراتيجيات نموذجية وتدابير عملية بشأن القضاء على العنف ضد المرأة في ميدان منع الجريمة والعدالة الجنائية، قدمت كنموذج لمبادئ توجيهية تستخدمها الحكومات في الجهود التي تبذلها للتصدي لمختلف مظاهر العنف ضد المرأة في إطار نظام العدالة الجنائية.

On 12 December 1997, the General Assembly adopted the Model Strategies and Practical Measures on the Elimination of Violence against Women in the Field of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Assembly resolution 52/86, annex) to guide Governments in their efforts to address, within the criminal justice system, the various manifestations of violence against women.
