This Commemorative High-level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly gives us an important opportunity to reflect on the progress made and to measure the degree of implementation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action.

2. The commemorative high-level plenary session of the General Assembly held from 11 to 13 December 2007 reaffirmed the commitment of Governments to the full implementation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action contained in the world fit for children document.

2. Takes note of the initial progress made in the implementation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action1 by Governments, as well as by intergovernmental organizations and non-governmental organizations, and the support provided to them by relevant United Nations agencies, funds and programmes;
2 - تحيط علما بالتقدم الأولي الذي أحرزته الحكومات وكذلك المنظمات الحكومية الدولية والمنظمات غير الحكومية في تنفيذ الإعلان وخطة العمل(1)، وبالدعم المقدم إليها من وكالات الأمم المتحدة وصناديقها وبرامجها ذات الصلة؛

We have gathered here to evaluate the progress achieved in the implementation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action (resolution S-27/2, annex) adopted at the special session on children of 2002 and to reaffirm our strong political commitment to making the world a place fit for children.

1. Decides to convene a commemorative high-level plenary meeting to evaluate progress made in the implementation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action contained in the document entitled " A world fit for children " 1 on 11 and 12 December 2007;
1 - تقرر أن تدعو إلى عقد اجتماع عام تذكاري رفيع المستوى لتقييم التقدم المحرز في تنفيذ الإعلان وخطة العمل الواردين في الوثيقة المعنونة ' ' عالم صالح للأطفال``(1)، وذلك في 11 و 12 كانون الأول/ديسمبر 2007؛

The present report is issued in response to General Assembly resolutions S-27/2 of the twenty-seventh special session, held in 2002, 58/282 and 61/272, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to report regularly on progress made in the implementation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action contained in the annex to resolution S-27/2, entitled " A world fit for children " .

Requests the President of the General Assembly to hold open consultations with Member States, the Observer State and observers in order to prepare, as an outcome document to be adopted at the commemorative high-level plenary meeting, a brief declaration reaffirming the commitments to the full implementation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action contained in the document entitled " A world fit for children " ;

The President: As members are aware, the Commemorative High-level Meeting will evaluate the progress made in the implementation of the Declaration and the Plan of Action contained in the final document of the special session of the General Assembly on children, entitled " A World Fit for Children " (resolution S-27/2, annex).
