6. After the adoption of the draft resolution, a statement in explanation of position was made by the representative of the Syrian Arab Republic, on behalf of the Group of Arab States.

He noted that, as the new convention would be in the best interest of all the members of the international community, he was confident that the members of the Group of Arab States would sign and ratify it.
