In its resolution 55/230, the General Assembly took note of paragraphs 19 and 20 of the report of the Joint Inspection Unit for 1998 (A/54/34), reaffirmed article 20 of the statute of the Unit and paragraph 182 of Assembly resolution 54/249, and requested the Secretary-General to submit the report of the Administrative Committee on Coordination (now CEB) on the budget proposals made by the Unit as required by the statute.

The delay in receiving the comments of CEB had been a major factor in preventing the timely consideration of JIU reports by the legislative organs. However, were the Unit to engage in a constructive exchange of views with participating organizations during the preparation process of its reports, CEB comments could be considered not to be absolutely necessary, based on article 11.4 (e) of the statute of the Unit.
وبيّن أن تأخر استلام تعليقات مجلس الرؤساء التنفيذيين المعني بالتنسيق كان عاملا رئيسيا حال دون نظر الهيئات التشريعية في الوقت المناسب في تقارير الوحدة، بيد أن الوحدة إذا ما دخلت أثناء عملية إعداد التقارير، في تبادل بنّاء للآراء مع المنظمات المشاركة، فإن تعليقات مجلس الرؤساء التنفيذيين المعني بالتنسيق، يمكن اعتبارها غير ضرورية تماما، استنادا إلى الفقرة (هـ) من المادة 11-4 من النظام الأساسي للوحدة.
